Guest Room Attendant (Lodge)

Housekeeping at a city business hotel in Durban Central is steady work with room to grow into supervising. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

You'll report in Durban Central. Relocation is not covered for this one. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift
• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room

• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Grade 10 or matric
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Well groomed

• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Experience with industrial laundry machines

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
