Guesthouse Housekeeper

You'll turn rooms around at a conference hotel in Germiston so every guest walks into a room that feels new. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Home base is a conference hotel on the Germiston side of Gauteng.

• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift

• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Grade 10 or matric
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season

• A hospitality short course or NQF Level 2 accommodation services certificate
• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests

• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
