Guesthouse Housekeeper

Guests at a city business hotel in Richards Bay will never meet you, but they will judge the stay by your work. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a city business hotel in Richards Bay. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Keep your trolley stocked and neat before each shift
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board

• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season
• Friendly and polite if you meet guests in the corridor
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone

• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Previous hotel or guesthouse housekeeping experience
• A hospitality short course or NQF Level 2 accommodation services certificate

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges
• Uniform supplied and laundered

• Mention seasonal availability for December and Easter. Coastal and lodge properties hire heavily before those peaks.
• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
