Home-Based Caregiver (Live-In)

Your care keeps residents at a hospice in-patient unit in Brakpan safe, clean and comfortable through the day. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a hospice in-patient unit in Brakpan. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected

• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Uniform supplied
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
