Home-Based Caregiver (Live-In) – Experienced

Your care keeps residents at a hospice in-patient unit in Burgersfort safe, clean and comfortable through the day. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is Burgersfort-based, with most of your time spent at a hospice in-patient unit. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal

• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
