Hospital Ward Cleaner – Fixed-Term

You'll keep a frail care centre in Komani safe for patients by cleaning the way infection control demands. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Komani; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Clean theatres between operations to the hospital's turnaround times

• Respectful and discreet around patients
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Matric or Grade 11
• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Calm under pressure in busy wards

• Knowledge of healthcare waste handling rules
• Experience as a porter or general assistant in healthcare

• On-the-job infection control training
• Medical aid option through the employer
