Housekeeping Supervisor (Boutique Hotel) – Fixed-Term

Check-out to check-in in under an hour, room after room, at a beachfront holiday resort in Pietermaritzburg. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The work is in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Clean bathrooms, replace towels and restock guest toiletries
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date
• Report maintenance faults like dripping taps or broken lights

• Grade 10 or matric
• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Well groomed
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift

• Experience with industrial laundry machines
• Speaking a foreign language for tourist guests
• Previous hotel or guesthouse housekeeping experience

• Uniform supplied and laundered
• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• Mention seasonal availability for December and Easter. Coastal and lodge properties hire heavily before those peaks.
• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
