ICU Registered Nurse (Day Shift)

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a mine health centre in Brakpan, from admission to discharge. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll report in Brakpan. Relocation is not covered for this one. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Admit and discharge patients and explain medication and follow-up to families
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward
• Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients

• Clean criminal record
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice

• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
• Unit manager or shift leader experience

• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
• Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
