ICU Registered Nurse (Day Shift)

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a provincial district hospital in Midrand, from admission to discharge. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The work is in Midrand, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
• Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance and early warning scores, and escalate changes quickly
• Report adverse events and near misses on the incident system the same day
• Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
• Take part in ward rounds with doctors and record the new orders

• Clean criminal record
• Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
• Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly
• Valid BLS certificate; ACLS or PALS for ICU and emergency posts
• You can work 12-hour day or night shifts, weekends and public holidays

• Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts
• Unit manager or shift leader experience

• Paid SANC annual fees at some groups
• Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
• Funded CPD points and in-house clinical training

• For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
• Check your SANC receipt is for this year before you apply; an unpaid annual fee gets your application parked.
