Installation Electrician (Wireman's Licence)

This is hands-on electrical work in Upington: new installs, repairs and CoCs that pass the first time. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a solar and backup power installer on the Upington side of Northern Cape.

• Read electrical layouts and mark out point positions before chasing walls
• Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
• Test installations and issue Certificates of Compliance where your registration allows
• Install and wire distribution boards, isolators and earth leakage units to SANS 10142-1
• Replace faulty light fittings, plugs, geyser elements and thermostats
• Fault-find tripping circuits with a multimeter, insulation tester and loop tester

• Comfortable working at heights on ladders and in roof spaces
• Clean criminal record, since you will work inside client homes
• Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
• Valid Code 08 driver's licence

• Working at Heights certificate still in date
• N3 electrical trade theory on top of your trade test

• Provident fund and group risk cover after probation
• Company bakkie for call-outs and travel between sites
• Company-issued test instruments, calibrated every year

• Put your registration category (IE, MIE or single-phase tester) and registration number right under your name on the CV.
• Many applicants forget to attach the trade test certificate itself. Recruiters often skip CVs that only mention it.
