Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a rural combined school in Rosslyn. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is in Rosslyn (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What your day looks like

  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term

Must-haves

  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control

Extra points for

  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education
  • Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework

On offer

  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Paid SACE CPTD workshops

How to apply

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Rosslyn really suit you before you apply.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: police clearance issued in the last 6 months, two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself plus SACE registration certificate.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 9 working days.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
  • Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
