Irrigation Assistant (Crop Farm)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a deciduous fruit orchard near Alberton through the season. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

This post is Alberton-based, with most of your time spent at a deciduous fruit orchard. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Available for the full harvest season
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Living on or near the farm

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
