Job Description

Here your code runs in production, not in a drawer: a software development house in Paarl. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Paarl-based, with most of your time spent at a software development house. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What you'll actually do

Pair with junior developers to unblock them
Investigate production bugs using logs and monitoring dashboards
Handle personal data safely, with POPIA rules in mind
Write unit and integration tests before you merge
Deploy through a CI/CD pipeline on Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab
Document how your features work for support and new developers

Must-haves

Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
Experience writing automated tests
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people

Helpful, not essential

Public GitHub portfolio or published app
Knowledge of secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
