Job Description

Want to grow as a chef? This conference centre kitchen in Pretoria East gives you real stations and real volume. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is in Pretoria East (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

What your day looks like

Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.
Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.
Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.

What you need

Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP
1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
You take instruction from the head chef without drama
A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal

Helpful, not essential

Pastry or bakery training
Stock and ordering experience on a system such as Micros or Pilot
Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking
