Job Description

A remedial learning centre in Welkom needs a patient tutor who can turn a failing mark into a pass. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Location: Welkom, Free State. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

What your day looks like

Write a short progress note for parents after each session
Work through past exam papers and marking memos with learners
Prepare learners for control tests with short timed practice drills
Run live video lessons with a headset, whiteboard app and stable connection
Plan sessions that target the exact topics the learner is failing
Adjust your pace for learners with ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety
Assess a new learner's level with a short diagnostic test

What you need

Available at least three afternoons or evenings a week
Currently studying at university, or holding a degree or diploma
Own transport for home tutoring posts
Clear, patient way of explaining ideas
Distinction or strong pass in the subject you'll tutor

Helpful, not essential

TEFL or TESOL certificate for English tutoring
Second language for learners who study in Afrikaans or isiZulu
Remedial or learning support training
