Job Description

Big machines, long shifts, good pay: the open-pit iron ore mine near Secunda needs qualified operators. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is in Secunda (Mpumalanga). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What you'll actually do

Log loads, cycle times and machine hours on the onboard system or sheet
Haul ore and waste on the haul road loop to the crusher or dump
Push and level material on dumps and stockpiles with the dozer
Keep radio contact with the dispatch controller and follow the right-of-way rules
Complete the pre-use inspection checklist for your trackless mobile machine
Drill blast holes to the plan depth and angle marked by the survey team
Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew

Must-haves

Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
Grade 10 at minimum, with Grade 12 strongly preferred
Clear understanding of the TMM regulations under Chapter 8 of the MHSA regulations
Code 10 or Code 14 driver's licence
Valid operator certificate for the specific machine, from an MQA-accredited provider

Helpful, not essential

Fatigue management or defensive driving training
Certificates on two or more machine types
Experience with ultra-class haul trucks
