Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at a faith-based independent school in Phalaborwa. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The site is in Phalaborwa; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers

Must-haves

  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase

Extra points for

  • Honours degree in your subject or in education management
  • Coaching experience in a major school sport

What you get

  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Paid SACE CPTD workshops
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Phalaborwa really suit you before you apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record, two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself plus SACE registration certificate.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 9 working days.

Applying is free. Nobody from How2Apply will ever ask you to pay for anything to get this job.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
  • Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
