Job Description

Start in retail here: a hardware and building store in Cape Town CBD trains packers who show up and work neat. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a hardware and building store on the Cape Town CBD side of Western Cape. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

  • Pack shelves from the back, rotating older stock to the front (first in, first out)
  • Check sell-by dates and pull expired stock for the manager
  • Collect trolleys from the parking lot
  • Weigh, bag and price fruit and vegetables
  • Put up price tickets and promotion shelf strips

What you need

  • Neat appearance and punctual
  • Able to stand and lift cases all shift
  • Available for weekends, month-end and public holidays
  • Polite with customers and happy to help

Nice if you have

  • Own transport for route merchandising jobs
  • Being 18 or older for liquor store roles

On offer

  • Travel allowance on merchandising routes
  • Staff discount on groceries
  • Paid training in store procedures
  • Chance to move into till or department roles

Applying, step by step

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: CV with the days and times you can work plus matric results or last school report.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 6 working days.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • If you have ever sold anything, even at a school tuck shop or a family stall, list it. It shows you are comfortable with customers.
  • Stores fill weekend and night-fill slots first, so write "available weekends and nights" in your CV summary line.
