Live-In Housekeeper and Nanny

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a large estate home in Pretoria East. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is Pretoria East-based, with most of your time spent at a large estate home. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon

• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Good with children and patient
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Able to speak and understand basic English

• Experience caring for an older person
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Cooking experience with family meals

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
