Livestock Handler (Cattle Feedlot)

Healthy animals mean a healthy farm; on a cattle feedlot near Fourways, you keep them that way. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

You'll be based at a cattle feedlot in Fourways. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Collect eggs or check broiler house temperatures
• Help the vet with vaccinations and treatments
• Follow biosecurity rules like foot baths and clean overalls
• Milk cows in the parlour following the milking routine
• Record births, deaths and treatments in the herd book
• Move animals between camps or pens calmly
• Keep water troughs and drinkers working

• Follows hygiene and biosecurity rules
• Gentle and patient with animals
• Willing to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays on rotation
• Able to live on the farm or close by
• Comfortable around large animals

• Basic farm maintenance skills
• Supervisory experience for foreman roles
• Previous dairy or livestock experience

• Farm housing on site
• Production bonus on milk yield or growth targets
• Milk or meat rations
• Training in animal health

• Say which animals you have worked with and for how long. Farmers want someone who already knows the routine.
• Stress reliability. Explain that you understand milking or feeding cannot be skipped.
