Livestock Handler (Cattle Feedlot)

Healthy animals mean a healthy farm; on a dairy farm near Somerset West, you keep them that way. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a dairy farm on the Somerset West side of Western Cape. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Collect eggs or check broiler house temperatures
• Check animals for illness or injury and report to the manager
• Record births, deaths and treatments in the herd book
• Follow biosecurity rules like foot baths and clean overalls
• Move animals between camps or pens calmly
• Feed animals the right ration at the right time
• Keep water troughs and drinkers working

• Follows hygiene and biosecurity rules
• Willing to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays on rotation
• Reliable, since animals depend on you
• Able to live on the farm or close by
• Comfortable around large animals
• Gentle and patient with animals

• Basic farm maintenance skills
• Previous dairy or livestock experience
• Animal health or AgriSETA short course

• Production bonus on milk yield or growth targets
• Milk or meat rations
• Training in animal health
• Farm housing on site

• Stress reliability. Explain that you understand milking or feeding cannot be skipped.
• For foreman roles, mention how many workers you supervised and what you were in charge of.
