Maintenance Technician (Electro-Mechanical)

The cement plant in Cape Town CBD needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a cement plant. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery

• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects

• CNC programming experience
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
