Maintenance Technician (Electro-Mechanical)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the sugar mill in Prospecton. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is in Prospecton (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery

• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• CNC programming experience

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
