Mall Control Room Operator

From a chair in an armed response control room in Coega, you guide officers in the field to where they are needed. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll report in Coega. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Talk down intruders over on-site speakers when the system allows
• Log every event and action on the monitoring software
• Answer alarm signals and phone clients to verify them
• Track stolen vehicles on the map and guide recovery teams
• Hand over open incidents clearly at shift change
• Keep call-out times and client passwords up to date
• Pull and save video footage for incident investigations

• Able to stay focused through 12-hour day and night shifts
• Computer literate and quick on a keyboard
• No criminal convictions (vetting is done before you start)
• Matric
• Clear speaking voice on radio and phone
• Good memory for sites, streets and procedures

• Indoor, air-conditioned work environment
• Path to senior controller or supervisor
• Shift allowance for nights

• Mention any software you have used: alarm monitoring, CCTV or even call centre systems. Control rooms need people who learn screens fast.
• Some companies give a typing and map test. Practise finding streets on a map quickly before the interview.
