Night or day, an armed response control room in Durban Central never switches off, and neither does your focus on shift. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Durban Central; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Track stolen vehicles on the map and guide recovery teams
• Log every event and action on the monitoring software
• Dispatch the nearest response vehicle over the radio
• Monitor live CCTV feeds and zoom in on suspicious movement
• Talk down intruders over on-site speakers when the system allows

• PSIRA registration, Grade C or higher
• Computer literate and quick on a keyboard
• Able to stay focused through 12-hour day and night shifts
• No criminal convictions (vetting is done before you start)
• Good memory for sites, streets and procedures

• Speaking more than one local language
• Experience on a CCTV or alarm monitoring platform

• Path to senior controller or supervisor
• Training on the monitoring software
• Indoor, air-conditioned work environment
• Shift allowance for nights

• Show you can stay alert at night. If you have done night shift before without problems, say so.
• Some companies give a typing and map test. Practise finding streets on a map quickly before the interview.
