Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at an independent primary school in Kempton Park. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Kempton Park (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

What your day looks like

  • Capture marks on SA-SAMS or the school's reporting platform before deadlines
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Teach your allocated classes and keep the pace of the ATP
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term

You'll need

  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control

Nice if you have

  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
  • Honours degree in your subject or in education management

On offer

  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies

Applying, step by step

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Kempton Park really suit you before you apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): SACE registration certificate, certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record plus two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 7 working days.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

  • Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
  • Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
