Millwright (Production Plant)

Bearings, gearboxes, pumps and lathes: this general engineering workshop in Harrismith needs your hands on them. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is Harrismith-based, with most of your time spent at a general engineering workshop.

• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine

• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

• Tool allowance
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
