Bearings, gearboxes, pumps and lathes: this sugar mill in Roodepoort needs your hands on them. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at a sugar mill.

• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds

• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers

• Shift and standby allowances
• Tool allowance
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
