Miner Assistant (Underground) – Fixed-Term

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The deep-level gold mine near Brits needs your crew leadership. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Brits-based, with most of your time spent at a deep-level gold mine. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate

• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
