Miner Assistant (Underground)

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The mechanised hard-rock mine near Mogwase needs your crew leadership. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The work is in Mogwase, North West, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
