Miner Assistant (Underground) – Permanent

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This underground coal colliery near Mokopane needs that person. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Location: Mokopane, Limpopo. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling

• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• First aid certificate current
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Housing or living-out allowance

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
