Miner (Conventional Gold Mining)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This underground coal colliery near eMalahleni needs that person. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is in eMalahleni (Mpumalanga). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition

• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required

• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• First aid certificate current
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning

• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
