Miner (Conventional Gold Mining)

You'll lead a crew safely through drilling, blasting and cleaning at the deep-level gold mine near Vereeniging. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Vereeniging-based, with most of your time spent at a deep-level gold mine.

• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast

• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Medical aid and mine medical station access

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
