Mobile Crane Operator (Up to 50 Ton)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the pipeline and trenching company in Cape Town CBD. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a pipeline and trenching company. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Do the pre-start checklist on your machine before the first bucket
• Cut and trim road layers to level with the grader
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Record machine hours and fuel on the daily plant sheet
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers
• Dig trenches for pipes and cables to the depth and grade set by the surveyor

• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Can read grade pegs and understand cut and fill
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town
• At least 2 years operating the machine on construction sites

• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Refresher training on new machines
• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
