Motor Mechanic (Independent Workshop)

Fix it right the first time: that is the job at this fleet maintenance workshop in Umlazi. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Umlazi-based, with most of your time spent at a fleet maintenance workshop. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Do wheel alignments and balancing on the alignment bay
• Road test vehicles before and after repairs
• Update control unit software when the manufacturer releases a campaign
• Coach the apprentice on your bay through basic services
• Replace clutches, brake pads, discs, shocks and timing belts
• Carry out roadworthy pre-checks on lights, brakes and steering

• Neat with customer vehicles: seat covers, floor mats and no grease marks
• Able to meet flat-rate or sold-hour targets
• Your own basic toolbox
• At least 3 years as a qualified mechanic in a dealership or workshop
• Motor mechanic trade test certificate (Red Seal) or occupational certificate at NQF 4
• Confident with diagnostic scan tools and wiring diagrams

• Brand-specific training certificates from a manufacturer academy
• High-voltage hybrid or EV safety training
• Air-conditioning regas experience with SAQCC Gas registration

• Pay at or above the motor industry bargaining council rates
• Staff discount on parts and services
• Productivity bonus on sold hours above target
• Tool allowance or tool insurance
