Network Technician (Fibre and Wireless)

When the network goes down at this university IT department in Prospecton, you're the one who brings it back. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in Prospecton (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Document network diagrams and change records
• Monitor servers, links and firewalls and act on alerts
• Plan hardware refreshes and licence renewals with a budget
• Apply monthly patches to servers and network devices
• Configure switches, VLANs, VPNs and firewall rules
• Run and test backups, and do regular restore drills
• Work with ISPs on link faults and fibre installs

• Clear change management and documentation habits
• Scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python
• Willing to do standby and after-hours maintenance
• At least 3 years in systems, network or cloud administration
• Degree or diploma in IT, plus relevant certifications
• Solid TCP/IP, routing, switching and firewall knowledge

• Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform or Ansible
• ISO 27001 audit experience
