Nursery Worker (Seedlings)

Crops do not wait, and a commercial seedling nursery near Kathu needs extra hands this season. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Location: Kathu, Northern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages

• Available for the full harvest season
• Valid ID or work permit
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
