Nursing Assistant (Rehabilitation Unit) – Permanent

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a retirement village frail care centre in Epping, working alongside registered nurses. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Epping; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Dementia care or palliative care short course

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
