Nursing Assistant (Rehabilitation Unit)

Your care keeps residents at a hospice in-patient unit in Secunda safe, clean and comfortable through the day. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Secunda-based, with most of your time spent at a hospice in-patient unit. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected

• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting

• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Uniform supplied
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
