Orchard Worker (Pruning and Thinning)

Harvest time on a vegetable farm near Secunda means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll report in Secunda. Relocation is not covered for this one. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Valid ID or work permit
• Available for the full harvest season
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Living on or near the farm

• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
