Painter's Assistant (Renovations)

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a low-cost housing development in Secunda. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a low-cost housing development on the Secunda side of Mpumalanga. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• Grade 8 or higher
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
