Paving Layer (Interlocking Pavers)

You'll build it with your hands: walls, floors, roofs and finishes on the low-cost housing project in Bloemfontein. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a low-cost housing project on the Bloemfontein side of Free State. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade
• Experience on NHBRC-registered housing projects
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering

• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
