Paving Layer (Interlocking Pavers)

The low-cost housing project in Mokopane needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Mokopane (Limpopo). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish

• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
