Paving Team Labourer

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a townhouse construction site in Ballito can keep building. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a townhouse construction site on the Ballito side of KwaZulu-Natal. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Clean tools, mixers and wheelbarrows at the end of each day
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work

• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Grade 8 or higher

• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor
• Previous site work you can show with a reference

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Paid weekly or fortnightly
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
