Pharmacist's Assistant Learner (Learnership) – Entry Level

Patients at a pharmacy inside a supermarket in Pietermaritzburg rely on you to get the right medicine into the right hands. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a pharmacy inside a supermarket on the Pietermaritzburg side of KwaZulu-Natal. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Process medical aid claims and fix rejections before the patient leaves
• Prepare monthly chronic packs for collection or courier delivery
• Explain dosage, storage and side effects to patients in plain language
• Log Schedule 5 and 6 items in the register as they go out
• Pick, count and label medicine for the pharmacist's final check
• Receive stock, check expiry dates and pack shelves first-expiry-first-out

• Matric with Maths or Maths Literacy
• Accurate with numbers and careful with labels
• Working knowledge of a dispensing system such as Unisolv, Proscript or Healthbridge-linked software
• SAPC registration as a Pharmacist's Assistant (Basic or Post-Basic)
• Friendly and clear at a busy counter
• Understanding of medical aid claim codes and PMB chronic rules

• Wound care or family planning counselling short course
• Experience in a courier or chronic medication pharmacy
• Experience with stock ordering through a wholesaler portal

• Sponsored Post-Basic studies for Basic assistants
