Job Description

Here your code runs in production, not in a drawer: an insurance company software team in Somerset West. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at an insurance company software team in Somerset West. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What you'll actually do

Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
Pick up tickets from the sprint board and estimate the work
Document how your features work for support and new developers
Join daily stand-ups and sprint planning
Review teammates' pull requests with useful comments
Investigate production bugs using logs and monitoring dashboards

You'll need

Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
Experience writing automated tests
Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build

Nice if you have

Public GitHub portfolio or published app
Experience in regulated sectors such as banking or medical schemes
Docker and Kubernetes experience
