Physical Sciences Teacher (Grades 10-12)

An independent primary school in Johannesburg CBD needs a teacher who can hold a class and lift the marks. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

Home base is an independent primary school on the Johannesburg CBD side of Gauteng. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
• Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
• Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
• Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
• Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
• Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams
• Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops

• A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach
• Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
• You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
• At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice

• Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework
• Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
• Honours degree in your subject or in education management

• School holidays in line with the school calendar
• Paid SACE CPTD workshops
• Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies

• Add your matric results or pass rates for your classes if they improved; hard numbers beat adjectives.
• Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
