Pipe Welder (Carbon Steel & Stainless) – Fixed-Term

If your welds pass X-ray, this stainless steel equipment manufacturer in Stellenbosch wants you. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The work is in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Sign off your weld map and traceability sheets for each spool
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs

• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Boilermaker or welder trade test certificate, or current SAIW welder qualification
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses

• SAIW welding inspector course, even at Level 1
• Orbital or automatic welding experience

• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
