Plasterer (Internal and External Walls)

The school construction project in Pietermaritzburg needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

This post is Pietermaritzburg-based, with most of your time spent at a school construction project. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says

• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
