Plater and Fabricator (Tanks & Hoppers)

The trailer and truck body builder in Alberton needs a coded welder who can hold a WPS and deliver clean, sound joints. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a trailer and truck body builder on the Alberton side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• Roll and form plate for tanks, chutes and hoppers
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Weld carbon steel pipe in the 6G position using GTAW root and SMAW fill
• Grind and repair welds flagged by the QC inspector
• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging

• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home
• Coding renewals paid by the employer

• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
• If you have worked shutdowns, name the type of plant, like refinery or sugar mill. It proves you know the site rules.
